3 Tips When it Comes to Salt

Himalayan pink saltYou’ve probably heard it before…

“Limit your salt!”

“Salt is bad for you!”

And while we agree, we also disagree.

When doctors say salt is bad for you, they’re typically referring to table salt, which is sodium chloride. Essentially, table salt strips away all of the good minerals that you find in better salts, like sea salt or pink Himalayan salt.

Here are a few tips to consider when it comes to salt.

1. Cooking with salt is OK, and so is seasoning your food—just make sure you aren’t using table salt. Other salts (as mentioned above) are just fine.

2. Do you buy salted butter? It may taste great, but consider that the salt used is most likely table salt unless stated otherwise. Consider buying unsalted butter and seasoning it at home with sea salt.

3. If you want to cut back on any sort of salt in your meals, chefs recommend one simple trick—using citrus instead. Try squeezing a lemon in or on your next dish to give it a try.
